Dynamics: Energy and Work on a Rigid Body

Energy and Work

Just like a particle, a rigid body can have work done to it, and energy applied to the state that the rigid body is currently in. The types of energy that can be applied to a rigid body are potential energy and kinetic energy. Through the conservation of energy law potential energy and kinetic energy are interchangeable meaning that as the potential energy decreases the kinetic energy will increase. Potential energy, kinetic energy, and the conservation of energy for a rigid body will be discussed in more detail on the other pages making up this section.
